TEBA Comments on ERCOT Batch Study Process

Big energy customers are coming to Texas.

How will the state ensure there’s enough electricity for them?

That’s a huge question for the Texas economy. To answer it, ERCOT has kicked off a batch study process for large loads. TEBA is actively working with the grid manager to ensure the process delivers affordable, reliable energy to the grid – without needlessly holding up projects that Texans are counting on.

Facing a big queue of more than 200 large load projects, ERCOT has wisely proposed batching them to determine how and when they can plug into the grid. However, there’s growing concern about which projects will be evaluated in the first batches – will nearly finished data centers and other large-load projects have to keep waiting in line for electricity, even as Texas needs them to power the AI race?
